Go Green With Eco-Friendly Sports Bottles

Go Green With Eco-Friendly Sports Bottles

Medical professionals and health care experts always tell us to hydrate and that is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Most of us are all on the go whether at school or at work and even at home. Most people today are always on the move here and there so it’s easy for us to not drink the recommended amount of water daily. That is why most people carry water bottles with them so that they can quench their thirst even while waiting in line at the bank or at the supermarket or just sitting in the office. Today, water bottles not only come in trendy designs and cool utility functions, they are also made to be eco-friendly. Eco-friendly sports bottles are increasingly becoming popular as they are reliable, durable and green compared to plastic water bottles.

Some of the most trusted brands in eco-friendly sports bottles is Nalgene. Nalgene is a US made, reasonably priced sport bottle that is ever popular among sportsmen women, as well as among office workers and soccer moms. Nalgene has a new line of sports bottles that are BPA free. Among the bottles, the Tritan Wide-Mouth Everyday bottle is the hottest selling in the line and it can hold enough water to keep you hydrated on a coast-to-coast flight or for a full day at the office. The mouth of the bottle is large enough to accommodate ice cubes and Nalgene sells a variety of accessories such as pop-up sports cap. The bottle retails are .50.

Another innovative design in sports bottles that are environmentally friendly are the Camelbak Better bottles. These bottles are designed to not spill thanks to its “flip, bite-n-sip” design, even when the flip lock is left open. These types of bottles are ideal for situations where there is a lot of movement such as driving or drinking while on the move. The Camelbak is also made with BPA free plastic and has a sporty design which comes with a bottle-top loop that can be clipped with a carabiner to a backpack. Consumers have a choice in colors and patterns such as argyle and hounds tooth for a more urban feel. This bottle retails for to depending on its liter.

Some companies have taken the humble sports bottle to a whole new level by incorporating hip designs and cool extra features and the Sigg Traveler takes the cup. Sigg, is considered hip as it is the popular choice among celebrities and eco-stars such as the Dave Matthews Band. Sigg is from a Swiss company and they have been in the business of making lightweight, recycled-aluminum bottles for a hundred years. The Sigg is lightweight and has a coating that prevents aluminum from secreting the contents. Up to its name, the Sigg Traveler is uber- trendy and lightweight and comes two sizes and a variety colors. The designs range from classic to simple steel. Unlike the Nalgene Tritan Wide Mouth, the Sigg Traveller has a small opening that cant fit in ice cubes but is great for warm beverages as the sports bottle is metal. Sigg offers a carrying pouch and even a new hot-beverage Sigg as well as a specially designed brush and cleaning tablets for cleaning. The price retails at .99 (0.6 liter); .99 (1 liter).

Choosing Day Spa Packages

Choosing Day Spa Packages

If you are considering treating yourself to a day at a spa, the first thing you should investigate is the spa services offered by different spas in your area.  If you desire a particular service, you’ll want to make sure that the spa you choose not only offers that service, but offers it as part of your spa package.  The quality and availability of spa services varies between businesses, so it’s wise to check out local spas before committing to an appointment.

Most day spas offer facials as part of their service.  Facials usually involve massage and the application of products to stimulate and exfoliate the skin.  The length of facial treatments varies.  Some spas may also offer chemical peels by licensed cosmetologists.  These peels are generally not included in spa packages and must be purchased separately.

Manicure and pedicure treatments are offered by most spas as spa packages.  If you are planning to have both services, it is usually less expensive to take them as a package.  If you want a specific manicure or pedicure treatment, check to make sure it is included in your package.

Massage is one of the most popular services offered by spas.  Massage therapists are required to be licensed in most states.  There are a number of different types of massages available at most spas and the prices vary based on the type of service.  It is usually possible to combine massage with other spa services in a spa package.

Spas may offer some type of hydrotherapy.  It may be a hot tub or Jacuzzi, or it may be a simple soak in aromatic bath salts.  Usually this spa service is included in package deals.

Some spas may offer hair services but these are usually not part of spa packages.  Waxing is also offered at many spas but is not generally bundled with other spa services.  Cosmetic application and education are not part of most packages.

Many modern day spas cater to both men and women.  Spa packages may be different for each gender, since in many cases the spa services sought are different for each gender.  Spas often offer specials for certain holidays like Fathers Day, Mothers Day, New Years Day and Valentines Day.  Look for these “sale” packages which can be a bargain.

If you plan to spend the entire day at the spa, most spas offer a meal as part of the full day spa packages.  You may want to check though, because spending the entire day without eating would be uncomfortable.  If you sign up for a full day spa package, the spa may give you a schedule for your treatments in advance.

The prices of spa packages vary depending on the spa services offered and the length of your stay.  You can find relatively inexpensive packages for manicures and pedicures, or you can choose to add additional services which will increase the price.  Spa packages make great gifts and you may wish to consider giving a spa package to a friend or loved one.

You can find excellent spa packages at Essence Day Spa at reasonable prices. See our website for pricing and details on our spa services.

Vintage perfume atomizers- How to spot genuine vintage perfume bottles

Vintage perfume atomizers- How to spot genuine vintage perfume bottles

Vintage perfume bottles and its growing popularity as collection pieces are also inspiring some type of fraud. There are many people who create imitations of vintage perfume bottles because of its hefty value. However, there are some special markings and features of a genuine vintage perfume bottle that can be identified to avoid such.

Materials are very important pieces of any merchandise. In the case of vintage perfume bottles, crystal lead should be the most genuine of all its materials. However, there are also some genuine vintage perfume bottles that are made from porcelain, this is especially true it these are from the Eastern side.

Features are still very essential. These features include the different elements in the bottle itself. There are many features of modern perfume bottles that are very different from vintage perfume bottles. Some of these include how the perfume is dispensed as well as the bottles’ own design.

One of the most notable features of a vintage perfume bottle is the glass dauber stub. This is for dabbing larger areas with perfume. Say, you would be applying perfume at the lower part of the dress. If bottles have this type of top, then, there is a high probability of its originality.

Another important feature of vintage perfume bottles is the cork stub, since it keeps the perfume from spilling in case of topple. These cork stubs also keeps the top tight in place. One other feature of vintage perfume bottles are glass dip sticks. These are the sticks that are inside the bottle, used to apply in specific areas. Thus, spot application of the perfume. Just like modern perfume bottles that have a stick in the middle, their vintage counterparts have these also, only with different purpose. One was for dipping, the other as siphon for spraying.

Among the important features include the atomizer cushion which helps spray the perfume. Almost all depiction of vintage perfume bottles are with this type of cushion. Even in cartoons, perfumes are depicted in such light. Check on the materials used for the cushion and keep in mind that plastic is not yet used during that time. Any hint of plastic in the materials may mean that the bottle is fake or refurbished.

The Vintage perfume atomizers also have a difference in it. Usual modern perfume bottles have stable bases. However, some vintage perfume bottles are made to be asymmetrical that is why it cannot sand on its own. Some bases cannot stand on its own and is meant to lie down.

Perhaps the most important sign of a vintage perfume bottle is the sign at the bottom of the bottle. These usually have some type of emblem that id etched at the bottom. Check whether it has a right spelling and that these are some known brands back then. This increases the value of the vintage perfume bottle.

Make sure that you keep these in mind so that you would avoid spending on imitations and fake vintage perfume bottles.

Safe Filtration

Safe Filtration

Everyone loves a drink of cool water to drink on a hot day. The current consumption of bottled water has caused a problem for the planet. It has been estimated that bottled water companies make .2 billion dollars a year with little regulation, which means that ordinary tap water can be just as good as any given bottle of water. The bottles themselves are plastic and continue to pile up in our landfills, harming our planet.

If you want to do something good for the environment, invest in a good home purifier. If you buy reusable glass containers you can bottle your own beverages. Using slices of fresh fruit for flavoring you can make your own juices. You’ll save money and you’ll be drinking something that is better for your health. It is the most logical, convenient, and economical solution, for obtaining better quality water. Water filters offer many benefits over tap water and bottled water. Many events, like E. coli scares and lead poisonings, have created new levels of awareness about the need for home water filters. Home water filtration offers higher quality water than bottled water with the convenience of coming out of the tap. For less than 10 cents a gallon you can have great tasting, healthy, and chemical-free water. All at the touch of a button!

Unlike bottled water, home water filters are required to document the purity of the water they produce. In many states, it is unlawful to make uncertified claims for home water filters. This strict regulation gives consumers a means for accurately comparing and substantiating a water filter’s performance capabilities. Certain states, California being the strictest, require manufacturers to have all promotional, advertising, website and packaging materials, reviewed by the Department of Health for accuracy. The California Certification is one of the best ways to determine a product’s performance capabilities. Eco-friendly systems usually use a carbon filter and other natural filters to make the water clean. Systems that require complex chemicals are not as eco-friendly. The chemicals have to be disposed of in special ways, but most consumers simply throw them out, which means it goes into the landfill and can cause contamination to soils.

Water filtration systems are the way to go for a green lifestyle. They use fewer resources and are economical.

Envirocitizen.org is a comprehensive ecommerce website that combines robust commerce, content, and community.  We believe that we have created the most comprehensive site to date to make eco-friendly products, services, and information available to individuals who wish to live a green, more eco-friendly lifestyle.  Our site offers a very broad and diverse array of eco-friendly products as well as comprehensive, authoritative information and environmental education.  Additionally, users can enjoy the sense of community created by participating in our Forum.

Business Brands

Business Brands

Brand assets and touch points are like words in a sentence. By themselves they might have their own independent meaning, but when combined they add up to convey a larger meaning and message or voice. Everything a brand says or does has an impact on a brand’s voice.

Historically brands and the business they represent were viewed by the general public simply as a business, with basic economic and strategic issues to deal with. However, right now we are witnessing a shift in the way consumers think about brands. Consumers are now seeing brands more as living, breathing entities with personalities and voices all their own. As a result, brands are being asked to act more like good citizens and have an overall net positive impact on the world or at the very least to limit their negative impact.

It wasn’t that long ago that the majority of consumers had no clue about a product’s life cycle. They didn’t know or care where their food came from. They had no idea what a brand’s policy on energy was or if it was “green.” Consumers didn’t think about human rights issues in the factories of the developing world.

Fast forward a decade or two. Thanks to the Internet and its 24/7 fact-sharing availability, consumers are much more informed about all facets of the way brands do business—and they have learned to care. As for brands, it’s not just about earning a merit badge and sleeping well at night. Being responsible and working in a sustainable manner is seen as an aid to business growth and attracting top talent.

Managed brand assets such as ads, packaging, websites, etc. communicate your message to the consumer. As such, they need to help reinforce a brand’s citizenship initiatives. When the consumer knows more about the good work your brand is doing in the world, brands improve the chance that consumers will select your brand over a competitor. But they need to hear it in your voice.

Design Forum addressed retail’s growing complexity as the first company to integrate analytics-based brand strategy into its business model.

As Transparent as a Their Glass Bottles – Cospak Pty Ltd

As Transparent as a Their Glass Bottles – Cospak Pty Ltd

Cospak Pty Ltd. manufactures a wide range of rigid and flexible packaging at three facilities located in Sydney, Auckland and Guangzhou, China, as well as sourcing over 7,500 products from more than 200 supply partners for distribution to its warehouses in all Australian states, New Zealand, South Africa and Italy.

Founded in 1969, Cospak utilizes sophisticated inventory tracking software, fosters close relationships with partners and clients, and applies a balanced philosophy to operations. Cospak’s expertise and responsiveness to implement efficiency developments have positioned the wine, beverage, food and pharmaceutical industry packaging specialists as Australasia’s largest packaging distributor.

PRODUCT LINE

Three businesses operate under the Cospak brand, which include Cospak Plastics, Premier Plastics and Cospak China. In December 2009, San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation acquired a 65 per cent majority stake ownership in the company, but has left Cospak relatively autonomous in its operations.

With the acquisition, Cospak stands to benefit dramatically with a significant cash infusion and new markets to explore. Cospak General Manager of Operations Jonathan Evans settles partners’ concerns by assuring Cospak will remain just as committed and engaged in current relationships as ever.

Evans is also excited about a new contract with Amcor Glass and the current government quality and efficiency evaluation of Cospak Plastic’s operations—both of which will help position the company to reach its objective of doubling in size within the next few years.

UNBREAKABLE

Cospak Plastics, which is the smallest of the three companies under the Cospak brand with million in revenue, is currently in the midst of a governmental review called Enterprise Connect that promotes the business growth in Australian companies. The goal is to make small to medium organizations more efficient and, thus, strengthen the Australian economy as a whole.

“We’re looking at improvements, structural improvements, at the way we manage ourselves in the Cospak Plastics business—the staffing, the structure, how we handle our finances, our marketing. It’s quite broad,” says Evans.

“Through business diagnostic sessions, a specialist business adviser will provide Cospak with recommendations, which are then up to us to take or leave. If we take on any of the recommendations, there’s potential for up to ,000 in co-contribution from the Australian government to help us achieve these recommendations.”

SHAPING THE WORKFORCE

For all the emphasis on operational reviews, efficiency and investments, Cospak is keenly aware of the needs of the employees that source and sell the various packaging the company offers. Cospak treats its employees with respect, pays a solid wage, provides flexibility, trains adequately and provides a collegial atmosphere. As a result, Cospak has high retention levels of their qualified staff.

“It’s about ensuring a high degree of autonomy for the staff. We find our employees, if given enough autonomy in ensuring that the various requirements of their role are met, tend to rise to the occasion and ensure things flow without constant attention,” says Evans.

“No one is looking over people’s shoulders day-to-day but really encouraging independence. As long as consideration and thought has been put into a decision, we tend to be accepting if the result is not great – everyone makes mistakes.”

DISTRIBUTING RESPECT

The empowering methods Cospak preaches at its operations in Australia apply immensely to other company operations. Most of Cospak business is done in Asia, and in general Asian culture lifts relationships to the top of the priority list.

“The key with doing business in Asia are the relationships,” says Evans. “It’s pretty much relationships first, business second. If you have the strong relationship and build up over time a high level of trust, you tend to get the cooperation you need.”

“It’s not just about how much you buy. It’s about how you respect their organization, them as individuals and are culturally accommodating. We’ve been doing business there for well over 20 years so it’s a long learning curve”

REINFORCED

Cospak’s Australasia connection ramped up recently with San Miguel Corporation entering the picture. The two companies generally facilitate operations via the same sales mechanisms, offices, warehousing infrastructure, distribution network and customer support services, so a marriage was natural.

Cospak traditionally leaned on the distribution side and was seen as having a manufacturing deficiency. The San Miguel resources should temper those perceptions and strengthen the company for the future.

As Cospak bounces back from the economic downturn, like many Australian companies today, the company is thankful for the strength of its relationships and is particularly excited about a new partnership with Amcor Glass, a leading supplier of quality glass for wine bottles.

“It’s important not to pay lip-service to these principles but to follow through with them. We have to ensure we keep the communication flowing and that we stay in regular contact with our partners. We need to understand their business requirements as much as they need to understand ours,” says Evans.

LIGHTING IN A BOTTLE

Cospak is looking at all options to continue growth and capture an even larger global share of the container manufacturing and distribution market. The company is looking at potential acquisition opportunities but maintains that mutually beneficial relationships take priority.

“The key is maintaining relationships. It’s not just about beating up your suppliers and trying to get the best price,” says Evans.

“To a large extent, regardless what happens in the markets, both financial and those we trade within, we tend to ride it through. As long as we maintain those relationships, I believe we will continue to roll with the punches and overcome whatever obstacles are thrown in our path.”

Cospak owns a firm grasp on the packaging distribution market with no imminent danger of that share slipping. Cospak knows that external factors and fluctuations in the markets are beyond its control.

Regardless, Cospak has bottled a chief philosophy: strong working relationships with partners can safeguard Cospak from any rigid situation.

So What if you Have an Organised Kitchen? ? Part 2

So What if you Have an Organised Kitchen? ? Part 2

Nowadays, many kitchen models boasts of spaciousness: spacious cabinets, spacious cupboards, inexhaustible drawers. We just can’t get enough of space. And yet, what we didn’t know is that we have all the space we need in our kitchens if we only knew how to maximise them.

Here’s part two of things you can do towards a kitchen you won’t lose your way in.

1. Keep them Contained!

Admit it, the first thing that comes to mind: Tupperware. Although of course, there are now lots of sorts of resealable food containers in the market today, stackable, watertight, and airtight, and in a wide variety of colours to complement your kitchen.

Obviously, your pantry is where foodstuffs are kept, so your main goal is to store them in such a way that they last longer. But keeping them from spoiling is one thing; making them accessible is another. Often, we store foods so well that we eventually forget them, and only remember when they’ve expired and inedible already. This of course defeats the purpose of storing foods in the first place.

Store each item then so that it is easily visible and reachable. Group them together whenever possible (you can enlist your kids’ help on this one), and have their labels, especially for canned goods, up front so that they’re easily read. Finally, discard foods that have passed their expiration dates or are more than a year old.

2. Use Jars, Bottles, Nooks in Walls, Ceilings to Your Advantage.

Store gravy packets, seasoning packets, etc. in a small, clear plastic or glass containers for easy access.

Line up boxes with their sides facing front. If possible, store the most often used items at eye level. Store heavy items, such as boxes of ‘long life’ juice, milk, and cordials on a lower shelf.

Choose a lower shelf for paper storage, cling wraps, foil etc. If you have school-age children who take their lunch to school, create an area in your kitchen for lunch making. Stock it with lunch boxes and/or brown bags, plastic wraps/bags, thermos containers, drink bottles and small food containers. For after school and weekends, create a snack shelf of parent-approved treats for children.

If you have extra wall space, consider storage hanging hooks, a notice board, and other helpful organising items.

Purchase handy space saving products such as stacking containers, and sturdy baskets for onions, garlic, and potatoes.

Organise spices which you use most often in the front row. If you have a shallow drawer near your stove, consider laying all of your small spice jars in there. Place them label side up so it is easy to view them all at once. Most dried spices lose their flavour in six months.

Any miscellaneous items can be stored labelled shoeboxes and use them to store items such as biscuit cutters, candles, appliance accessories, matches, batteries, and smaller items. Square containers take up less space and fit more efficiently on shelves than round ones. Place hooks inside a cabinet door to small utensils on. This will help to clear drawer space.

Anything that is still in good condition and can be sold, auctioned, or given away. Peak Oil and the ’08 Election

Peak Oil and the ’08 Election

The headlines this month have been taken by the most insidious of America’s vices: black gold. Oil futures are now projected to exceed 0 a barrel until 2016, and continue to sit comfortably near the 5-120 a barrel mark. Many different causes have been blamed for rising prices at the pump, ranging from massive speculation to supply instability in some oil-producing nations. However, one factor must surely be worrisome to most every American: oil companies haven’t been getting enough of the stuff out of the ground.

Exxon Mobil’s billion quarterly profit disappointed Wall Street and investors alike, their shares falling 4 percent on May 1st. The largest oil company in the US has seen stagnant margins in most quarters since 2005 without being able to increase production. In fact, their overall production fell 10 percent. Demand in the US has also contracted 2 percent since the beginning of the credit crunch last summer, so Exxon’s profits have been reaped in large part because of increasing price pressure on consumers, many of whom have looking to Congress for some relief. They may be looking for a while, as representatives have been less than forthcoming on bipartisan measures since they passed the economic stimulus package into law in February.

The two Democratic candidates running for President have sharply contrasted on how to address record oil inflation. Both Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton and Republican Senator John McCain have endorsed the idea of temporarily removing the federal gas tax over the summer months. Their reasoning is that consumers will feel the pinch of driving costs most over the summer, which means some offset in price would be more appreciated. However, there is no guarantee that the tax break will reach consumer directly, as many other secondary industries besides the oil companies price their profits into gasoline. Senator Barack Obama has also criticized the two candidates, stating that they were “reading from the same political playbook.” However, he hasn’t offered forth an alternative.

It is therefore difficult to project how difficult it will be for hard-hit US consumers in the near term, much less come November. Ethanol conversion and use is another issue that will continue to influence price inflation, as greater demand for alternative fuels increases. Many economists already believe that the globe has reached peak oil, or the zenith of possible oil production. This means that energy will only become scarcer and more expensive, and the 18.5 cent federal gas tax will only be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to government intervention. Oil prices aren’t going down by much even if such a tax break is implemented, primarily because demand from developing countries like China and India continues to grow. Indeed, their combined oil consumption outpaced that of the US for the first time in 2007. Some type of initiative between oil-producing nations will eventually have to be made to move towards more sustainable levels of consumption, but growing divisive political sentiments make it unlikely for anything major to happen until someone new is in the Oval Office.

Bioethanol: How Bioethanol Fits Into The New Environmentally Friendly Industry

Bioethanol: How Bioethanol Fits Into The New Environmentally Friendly Industry

Bioethanol is a fully sustainable energy source that has been extracted from renewable raw materials like starch plants including corn, wheat and cassava, sugar plants including beets and can and some cellulose plants which come from trees. Bioethanol is well burning fuel that does not contain nay harmful particles, is much better than its gasoline counterpart and reduces overall air pollution which is good for the environment.

Bioethanol is being produced through the hydrolysis and sugar fermentation processes. It requires diluted enzymes and sulphuric acids which help to break down the cellulose and hemicelluloses in order to produce sucrose sugar which is in turn fermented into ethanol.

Closely connected to biodiesel, bioethanol is a liquid biofuel and can be added to standard unleaded gasoline at levels of up to 5% and can be used in cars currently on the road. By replacing bioethanol for fossil fuels, emissions from fossil fuels are avoided and Co2 levels are reduced because the biomasses that serve as raw material for bioethanol production require Co2 for growth.

Bioethanol is renewable from plants likes cereals, sugar beets and the like or biomass. Cellulosic ethanol is made from stalks and husks as well as other plant cellulose materials, but it still needs to go through the fermentation process and uses cast-off waste products from food that’s in the process of growth. Cellulosic ethanol is made from the non-food portion of many agricultural wastes like corn stover which is the stalks and residue left post-harvest.

It hasn’t been until very recently that the problem of complex mixtures of sugars in bioethanol fuels that made up these leftover materials could be converted in an efficient manner by bakers yeast. However, Delft University Technology recently came up with a method that solved this problem. It was accomplished by genetically modifying the bakers yeast.

Brazil makes most of its bioethanol from local crops of sugar cane which has been a great material for ethanol fuel production. Half of all cars in Brazil are running on ethanol.

Another process still under development shows great promise. It involves the gasification of biomass combined with catalytic process that leads to the production of bioethanol. It has been making gains and garnering more attention in the United States.

While the gasification to produce bioethanol needs more research, the main reason for its continued popularity is that, it can be easily blended with gasoline in a mixture of 5% bioethanol and 95% gasoline which is suitable for use in cars already on the road today. This can work in cars without modification only with an additive package.

E95 has been designed specifically to be utilized in certain diesel-engine buses which can be easily converted to run on the bioethanol mixture.

Fuel companies will be legally obligated in 2010 to mix five percent bioethanol with 95% gasoline and 5% biodiesel with 95% conventional diesel. While mixes at these levels will cause no damage to existing fuel systems and can run without any adjustments, it will become the standard ingredient in fuel.

Bioethanol production is currently estimated at around 30 million tons per year. Biodiesel fuel is only estimated at 2.5 million tons per year. This is going to increase significantly over the next few years. While the crop chosen depends largely upon prevailing soil and climactic conditions, bioethanol can be produced from nearly any type of crop produced.

As governments strive to be less reliant on foreign oils, sustainable fuels like bioethanol become ever more important for industrialized nations. As in all things, energy security will need to increase in many countries as petroleum exports decrease and pure bioethanol production swings into full gear.

Research and testing has been widespread as mixtures of methanol, water, acidity, phosphorus and sulphur contents to include are tweaked and filtered. These are just some of the impurities that can commonly be found in bioethanol, and maximum limits of these need to be imposed to avoid numerous problems in the automobile using it. Europe already has a standard EN DIN 228 which permits blending of up to 5% with gasoline. This fuel mixture of E5 has been proven to be used in standard engines with no problems.

Current companies involved in bioethanol production and distribution are making strides at creating an infrastructure which can implement the intentions and policies concerning biofuel. In the meantime, all us must remain vigilant about the positive impact of bioethanol and other biofuel, and keep an eye on how it’s expanding. In theory,

Bioethanol is considered to be 100% carbon neutral. this means that every bit of carbon that is burned while using it as fuel can eventually be recycled back into the next crop of vegetables as they grow. While this is great in theory, it has quite been clarified as to how this can be implemented in practice. There are additional carbon costs such as how to power agricultural vehicles, fertilizer production and fuel transportation.

All in all, with very biofuel being developed and implemented, there is a learning curve involved. All implementation of biofuel will, however, add to negatively impacting the environment.
