Bottled Water not the Best Solution to the Tap Crisis

Bottled Water not the Best Solution to the Tap Crisis

Water is essential to life. The right kind of water, that is. We know that drinking tap water is hazardous to your health. City water typically contains chlorine, chloramines and fluoride, and often contains pesticides, arsenic, lead and other harmful organic chemicals. Who knows what lurks in well water that is not treated at all.

People are listening to cautions raised about drinking tap water, as evidenced by the tremendous rise in the consumption of bottled water despite its costing 1000 times the price of tap water. Marketing campaigns have capitalized on these concerns, leading us to believe that all bottled water is superior to tap water. This is probably true in many cases, but some bottled water is no different than that coming from the tap.

There have been many times I have bought bottled water and it tastes just like I had gotten it from the tap. The reason is there are few standards regulating the quality of bottled water.

The astronomical difference in the price between the two is partly due to the costs of manufacturing the plastic containers for bottled water and the expense of transporting it by truck to stores. These expenses alone cannot justify the high prices, especially if the water is not even purified.

There are also other health concerns to bottled water. Since the bottles are made of plastic, toxic chemicals are released into the environment during their manufacture and disposal, and toxins are released into the water itself, especially if the plastic is cloudy. If you must drink water in plastic containers, buy it in bottles made of clear plastic, which is less toxic.

If you consume bottled water, make sure the label says it has been filtered by reverse osmosis and also sanitized by ozonation. Another option is to consume water from a spring source that you know for certain is clean. But how can you be certain? You can’t be certain with bottled water.

In my opinion, bottled water is not the best solution to the problem of toxic tap water. You can be the most certain your water is clean, have less plastic toxicity, save money and help protect the environment by getting a good filter for an unlimited supply of clean water at home.

Why Sports Bottles Trump Plastic Water Bottles

Why Sports Bottles Trump Plastic Water Bottles

Buying a case of bottled water is convenient. It cuts down on time for busy individuals especially athletes. They can just grab one and go. But did you know that one fourths of bottled water is tap water? Or that the bottled water industry made upwards of 4 million dollars last year? That’s a humongous amount of money for something consumers can get practically for free by the turn of a knob in their own home. Cutting down on buying bottled water is not only great on our eco-system but it also saves money. The best solution for this is to get a sports bottle or a permanent water bottle of sorts which can be customized to fit any design.

The most obvious and best reason to own a personalized sports bottle is that it’s earth-friendly. Bottled water is typically made out of plastic. Plastic is a big detriment to the planet because for one plastic is made from petroleum which is a limited resource. Two, plastic is mostly non bio-degradable. It stays on our planet practically forever! With the overwhelming rise in popularity of water bottles in five years landfills will be overcrowded with plastic. What happens to Mother Earth then?

Another awesome reason to cut down on bottles of water is that it saves a whole lot of money. A case of “good” bottled water averages around six dollars for a case of twenty-four. If a consumer drinks the recommended amount of eight glasses or bottles per day then that case only lasts for about three days. That’s roughly twelve dollars a week, forty eight dollars a month. Imagine spending forty eight bucks a month on bottled tap water. Most people’s water bill isn’t that high.

The rewards for dedicating an extra five minutes in the morning to prepare a water carrier are enormous. Just imagine if at least ten percent of bottled water consumers decided to bring a sports bottle to games or to work. It is invaluable to the economy and easy on the wallets.

Bottled Water Vs Tap Water-Discover The Disturbing Truth Here

Bottled Water Vs Tap Water-Discover The Disturbing Truth Here

So the debate goes on, bottled water vs tap water, with no clear winner in sight. Make no mistake about it, neither of these are the best solution, as both carry health dangers with them. Let me explain why.

We seem these days to be caught up in the tap versus bottled water argument, but failing to see that neither is acceptable. The bottled variety has been proven to be no healthier than tap, as the US FDA says: \”Companies that market bottled water as being safer than tap water are defrauding the American public.\”

Many times in this bottled water vs tap water debate people forget the huge downside, that we throw away over 60,000,000 plastic bottles a day here in the US. This is a truly mind boggling amount and reason for some states to start charging an extra tax, as they have.

Remember, there are no government standards requiring it to be any better, purer or safer than tap water.

Similarly in the tap versus bottled water deliberations, we must bear in mind that a recent study has said there are 2100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer in our tap water, including herbicides, pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

Out of 29 states quality tested, everyone had traces of at least one weed killer in every glass. US EPA chief Carol Browner says: \”The way we guarantee safe drinking water is broken and needs to be fixed.\”

So who is the real winner if both lose in the bottled water vs tap water debate? Well the answer is home filtered water. This is the way millions of Americans are already protecting themselves and the environment, by taking responsibility for their own well-being. So much for the tap versus bottled water argument!

Forget the reverse osmosis systems you may have heard about, as they are very wasteful, expensive to maintain and do not filter out all the dangers. They also remove the vital trace minerals we need for our long term health like calcium and potassium.

They should be included in the bottled water vs tap water debate as they are just as bad, except you pay a lot of money for the privilege!

The most effective on the market today are multi-stage carbon filter systems. Look for one that employs a sub micron filter and ion exchange to remove an amazing 99% of all contaminants.

They are also recommended by the US EPA as the best technology to fight today\’s contamination.

In conclusion, it is a great shame that there are no winners from the bottled water vs tap water camps, as there really should be.

I hope I have shown the need to safeguard our own health and our future health, the futility of the tap versus bottled water argument  and by investing in the right system, with today\’s technology, we can all have great tasting, pure healthy water with none of the health worries.

The Dangers of Low Quality Bottled Water and How It Could Affect Your Health and Well-Being

The Dangers of Low Quality Bottled Water and How It Could Affect Your Health and Well-Being

The real and present danger of low quality bottled water is a threat many scientists are taking seriously. There have been many outbreaks and recalls of bottles and there are also the risks of BPA leaching from the plastic bottles. Read the truth here and how to easily avoid the dangers.

The danger of low quality bottled water has been known for some time but it was recently discovered that many brands contain an alarmingly high amount of harmful bacteria. These can lead to serious stomach and digestive problems, especially in young children and the elderly.

High levels of contaminants are found in most brands and when Coca-Cola said that their brand was more pure than tap water some years back, the British government got involved and tested it.

Their bottled water is called Dasani but was found to contain unacceptable levels of a carcinogen called bromate, which is dangerous to humans in high levels. It was also revealed that it was bottled from treated tap water and soon the company decided to recall half a million bottles and abandon its European plans.

In the US, bottled water has very few regulations, especially if it is not transported over state lines. This has led to the danger of low quality bottled water being available to most of the population as 70% of it is unregulated.

Tap water has far more regulation and it still contains thousands of harmful contaminants, but is the lesser of two evils.

BPA or Bisphenol-A is another obvious danger and one which the bottled water companies don’t seem to mind. If this chemical leaches into the water from the bottle, it can cause many health problems including cancer if taken regularly.

You should always look for BPA free bottles but sadly not many are available.

So what is the best solution?

If you want to avoid the danger of low quality bottled water, simply invest in a home filtration system and bottle your own!

This is a simple and very effective way and can cost only around 10 cents a gallon with the best systems instead of the – a gallon that the shop variety will set you back.

You need home filtration as tap water is also full of harmful chemicals like chlorine and lead and the most effective systems are activated carbon block filters using a twin cartridge system to remove 99% of the main contaminants.

Using these tips, you can save hundreds of dollars a year, improve your health and not add to the sixty million plastic bottles used each day in the US.

Enema Treatment For Dogs

Enema Treatment For Dogs

Although there are a number of reasons why your dog may need an enema, you should never do this without initially seeking advice from your vet.  An enema may be the best method to administer necessary drugs or may be required if the dog is dehydrated through sickness and/or diarrhea.  Usually, there are different products available according to the size of the dog. However it is important to keep in mind the fact that the volume of the liquid at one go does not work to hydrate in one go, but continuous intake of liquids is necessary. If your dog is constipated, and laxatives have failed, an enema may be the best solution to the problem.  If you are certain that an enema is required proceed in the following manner:-

For smaller dogs you will need 25 – 30cc plastic syringe but for larger breeds an enema bag with a rubber nozzle will be necessary.  The volume of liquid to be administered is not as important as getting some liquid into the dogs system, particularly if the dog is dehydrated.

The water that is to be used should not be hot but should be heated to body temperature (101 – 102ºF).  For smaller dogs add a few grains of sea salt, a few lemon drops and a pinch of potassium chloride to 2-3 tablespoons of the water or for larger dogs – a pint of water.  If the enema is being administered only for constipation you will not need potassium chloride or salt.  If dehydration exists in your dog you will need to administer the enema every four hours, but make up each dose individually just before you are going to administer it.

Make absolutely certain that the mixture is not too hot, place it into the syringe or enema bag and use vegetable oil to lubricate the end of the syringe or nozzle. It is best to perform this exercise in a sink, bathtub or outside as the dog will want to relieve himself very quickly afterwards.  Do not try to perform this task alone, you will need someone to assist in holding the dog and keeping his head facing in the opposite direction.  Lift the dogs tail, insert the nozzle or syringe into the rectum and release all of the mixture via gently squeezing the enema bag or pressing the plunger of the syringe. Take the nozzle out and release the dog.  The enema works because the colon absorbs the liquid and this is particularly useful when dealing with a dog which is very dehydrated.  If the dog appears to have been adversely affected by the enema, call your vet as quickly as possible.

The above treatment should bring your dogs health back to normal and he will certainly feel much better. Just like a family member, your pets well being is equally important and I am sure this will help your dog get relief. However, consult a vet if things are severe or you find no change in the situation.
