Why a Portable Water Purification System Tops Bottled Water

Why a Portable Water Purification System Tops Bottled Water

A lot of people are wasting hard-earned dollars when they drink bottled water instead of purchasing a simple portable water purification system. The money that you save by switching to a carry along system would simply astonish you over the course of a year or two. Not to mention, your water would be safer.

Most people mistakenly believe that the water they are drinking is safe, because the bottle advertises it as pure, natural spring water. This advertising gives people a kind of false comfort; they believe the water’s purity has been tested independently. However, pure water is definitely not what the bottled water companies are selling you. Only the promise of pure water.

I can say with confidence that a portable water purification system is a better choice for drinking on the go. With this type of filtered system, you are guaranteed to remove lead, chlorine, and a great number of other chemicals from your water. With bottled water, you are only guaranteed to have no idea what is going into your body.

Federal regulations for bottled water state that it has to be as safe to drink as tap water, but not any safer. How comforting is that? What you are buying is probably ordinary tap water that has simply been filtered to eliminate odor. Yes, there have been maximum contaminant levels set for bottled water, but the Environmental Protection Agency rarely enforces them.

Another thing that you will never have to worry about with a portable water purification system is BPA or phthalates. BPA and phthalates are polymers used in the production of both hard and soft plastics. These carcinogenic agents seep out of the plastic of your store-bought bottles during storage and transport, and end up in the actual water in the bottle.

What you want to do is use a product that is BPA and phthalate free, which is exactly what a filtered bottle offers you. There are filtered sports bottles that you can buy that are rugged and inexpensive. Or you can purchase a top of the line model with a set of three cartridges for only .95.

A portable water purification system is the perfect answer for the car, the office, or the gym. Anywhere outside of your home you can have access to water that is clean and safe to drink. While at home, I encourage to enjoy clean, pure water by installing a high quality home water purification system for the entire family.

Purchasing a portable water purification system maximizes water safety for everyone in the family. You can guarantee that your family is safe from contaminated water no matter where they are.

Is Bottled Water Any Better Than Tap Water? The Shocking Truth Revealed

Is Bottled Water Any Better Than Tap Water? The Shocking Truth Revealed

If you’re wondering is bottled water better than tap water, then you may have a nasty shock in store. Many people mistakenly think that drinking the bottled variety is healthier. Find out the truth here and also the only way to protect your health.

Is bottled water better than tap?

In a word, no.

Despite the glossy adverts of pristine mountains and pure springs, the reality is a world away. Many of the top brands are actually bottled at the same source as your treated household supply.

The worrying part is that although the tap variety has many hundreds of chemicals in, the bottled variety has far less regulation, especially if it is not shipped over state lines.

On top of this you have the risk of BPA or Bisphenol A, which is a harmful chemical used in the manufacturing of the plastic and which can leach into the contents.

A recent study also found much higher levels of bacteria in bottled water as opposed to tap.

So you have no guarantee of purity and safety and drinking the bottled type is extremely expensive. It can cost as much per gallon as gas for your car, if you work it out! It also takes over 2000 times more energy to produce bottled water and adds to the 60 million bottles thrown away each day in the US and unnecessarily filling up the landfill sites.

So what’s the solution?

This is actually two-fold. First, as tap water is generally poor quality and contains traces of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, chlorine and lead to name just a few, a quality home filtration system should be used.

Then you can simply bottle your own pure and healthy supply to take with you, saving money and helping the environment at the same time by reducing your carbon footprint.

The best home systems start from just 0 for a countertop model and work out to only around 10c a gallon.

The best ones are activated carbon block filters with a two-stage process. These can remove over 99% of all the harmful contaminants to leave you with pure, healthy and great tasting water.

Now you know the answer to, is bottled water better than tap, and also know that neither is that great, why not consider using a decent home filter to protect your present health and future well-being.

History Of Water Bottles

History Of Water Bottles

Everywhere we look, there is sure to be people milling around carrying water bottles. The trend of hauling and drinking water from bottles has become progressively fashionable in modern years.

It is interesting to find out more about the substance used to contain the various liquids we consume daily.

Since the commencement of human history, people have explored various possibilities to convey fresh water from its source to their locale. During the height of the Roman Empire, aqueducts were erected to distribute water to the cities, and containers made from clay, materials of natural fibers and animal pelts were utilized to carry water in less significant amounts. In time, due to war, and then roaming lengthy distances by automated vehicles and sports activities such as hiking predisposed the inevitability for people to devise better ways for moving portable water.

There many brands of water sold in bottles available. For example, mineral water from San Pellegrino in Italy has been produced since 1935, whilst Evian took root in 1826. Perrier was established in 1898.

Initially, these Companies sold their water in glass bottles, but after the plastic revolution in the mid 20th century, plastic became the more fashionable choice. After that and to this day, water is commercially made available in plastic water bottles.

In 2008, consumers began to question the presence of Bisphenol-A or BPA found in some water bottles, which could lead to health problems. As such, many Companies today ensure that the bottles used to contain liquids are certified BPA-free. Since the latter part of the 12th century, most bottles for containing water were constructed with necks. Today, as the industry evolves, bottles forms and dimensions have rapidly changed.

One such bottle is the metal version manufactured by SIGG.

Dating back to 1908 in Zurich Switzerland, the Company was started by two enterprising, innovative, and visionary gentlemen, Ferdinand Sigg and Xavier Kung. Believing that aluminum was the wave of the future, they began manufacturing not only metal bottles, but frying pans, saucepans and other household items. By the 1950s, SIGG was the frontrunner in the production of metal water bottles.

With the emergence of water bottles made from other than plastic, cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles have prohibited city-funded procurement of plastic water bottles.

In recycling terms, water bottles made from PET or polyester, which is the most common plastic used for containers are discarded and recycled – known as ‘post consumer-PET’. Once the post consumer-PET is sorted from other waste, it is compressed, formed into bales and presented for sale to recycling Companies. Once sold, this PET waste is frayed into minute fragments. These fragments are then augmented into the production of polyester fibers, used for making items such as carpets, clothing and pillows.

PET water bottles are also used (after recycling) for solar water disinfection in third world countries; the empty PET water bottles are filled, left in the sun to permit disinfection via ultraviolet radiation. Water bottles, whether made of plastic, aluminum, metal or recyclable materials are part and parcel of our lives, and their presence is her to stay for a long time to come.

Stainless steel water bottles: What are the advantages of using stainless steel water bottles

Stainless steel water bottles: What are the advantages of using stainless steel water bottles

When it comes to buying a drink bottle there are many alternatives, most of which can be compared and bought online, but the most popular type of drink bottle that is increasingly being purchased is the stainless steel water bottles. There is a long list of advantages for using stainless steel water bottles, including durability and reusability, but the real benefits of stainless steel water bottles become apparent when they are compared to plastic drink bottles and aluminium water bottles.

Top quality manufacturers of reusable drink bottles have begun designing and manufacturing stainless steel water bottles to replace plastic and aluminium drink bottle alternatives that are currently on the market. Stainless steel, and particularly 304 grade (or 18/8), is one of the most hygienic materials available, so hygienic in fact that the same material is often used in the manufacture of surgical equipment, kitchen utensils and now drink bottles. Stainless steel water bottles therefore have the advantage of reducing the risk of water contamination that is apparent with plastic and aluminium water bottle alternatives, through the potential leaching of BPA and other chemicals. Stainless steel also provides bacteria resistance, which means that individuals concerned about their health can now purchase a water bottle that is lightweight, durable and free from chemical leaching.

Water stored in stainless steel water bottles is highly effective in retaining the flavour and purity of the drink, which is not necessarily the case with plastic or aluminium water bottle alternatives. In aluminium drink bottles for example, an epoxy resin inner lining is baked on at 400 Degrees Celsius in order to prevent the aluminium from contaminating the water. This epoxy resin however contains many chemicals that are themselves, at risk of contaminating water over time, as they eventually degrade and leach into the water. Similar to plastic these many different types of chemicals are consumed by drinking the contaminated water, which over time increases the risk of affecting your health, particularly if the drink bottle is used on a regular basis, such as daily or over a long period of time.

Given a similar weight, durability and price to plastic water bottles and aluminium drink bottle alternatives, it is apparent that stainless steel water bottles should not be overlooked when buying a drink bottle. Their superior material qualities make it a better alternative for reducing the risk of water contamination and the need to effectively maintain it. They are proof that drink bottles are not all the same, and should be researched and chosen appropriate considerations.

Hormone Havoc From Plastic Food Packaging

Hormone Havoc From Plastic Food Packaging

Plastic food packaging is lightweight, convenient and almost unavoidable. So the fact that it might be contaminating your food is a cause for concern. Can plastic food containers really be a health hazard?

There’s no quick and easy answer to that question. What we do know is that chemical compounds of plastic are turning up in human blood levels, so you are being exposed. That’s hardly surprising since we live in a plastic world.

Most of us start our day by squeezing toothpaste from a plastic tube onto a plastic toothbrush. Then we pour cereal into a bowl from a plastic bag and top it with milk from a plastic jug. After working all day on a plastic computer keyboard, we come home and heat up some soup from a can lined with – yes, plastic.

And then there’s quenching your thirst from plastic water bottles…

The Main Ingredient

Bisphenol-A (BPA) is the primary component of polycarbonate, the hard clear substance used in plastic food packaging. The FDA has declared BPA safe for use in plastic food containers, but numerous clinical studies are confirming that BPA is toxic. It is interesting to note that the FDA has been criticized by its own scientific advisory board for making their decision based on research funded by the plastics industry.

A Harvard study released in 2009 was the first to make a clear connection between drinking from plastic water bottles containing BPA and an increased level of BPA in the urine. This study came about almost by accident.

Karin Michels, associate professor at the School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School, noticed a lot of her students constantly swigging drinks from plastic water bottles. She warned them that they might want to limit their BPA exposure. The students wondered just how much BPA they might be getting and decided to find out.

77 students switched to drinking cold beverages from stainless steel bottles for a week to flush BPA from their systems. During that week, they provided baseline urine samples. They then switched back to drinking from BPA bottles for another week. In the final analysis, urine levels of BPA had gone up by 69%. (1)

Not the Usual Toxin

BPA is not a toxin in the usual sense. Asbestos, for instance, has a clear impact on the body and leads to cancer. BPA leached into the body from plastic food packaging doesn’t translate to immediate harm. Instead, it acts like a hormone and disrupts the endocrine system. The excess estrogen activity it causes can lead to higher risk of certain cancers, birth defects, diabetes and reduced fertility. (2)

Because BPA affects the body by mimicking natural hormones, the results may not show up for years. Research will have to be conducted for decades before evidence of harm done by plastic food containers and plastic water bottles is conclusive.

Canada has decided not to wait that long. It is the first country to officially declare BPA a toxic chemical, which could lead to a ban on food-related use in the near future. Other countries, including the U.S., have adopted a “wait and see” approach. (3)

As I mentioned earlier, it would be very hard to eliminate the use of plastic from your life. But if you want to limit your personal exposure to BPA, there are a few things you can do.

Use water bottles that are labeled BPA-free, or go back to glass.
Don’t microwave food in plastic containers – the heat speeds up transfer of BPA into the food.
Look for soups and milk packaged in cardboard cartons that are lined with alternate materials.
Don’t use plastic wrap to store food.

Plastic food packaging has become part of our way of life. As to whether it stays that way, only time will tell.

Remember to consult your physician before making significant changes to your diet, supplement or exercise regimen.

Bottled Water or Water Filtration System?

Bottled Water or Water Filtration System?

Chlorine, Chloramines, microscopic particles, pharmaceuticals and a host of contaminates and toxins enter our homes every day through our faucets.  Today it is common to see a home with under sink water filters, drinking water filters or a bottled water system to provide clean and safe water for drinking.  But even the best drinking water filters leave you unprotected in the shower, washing clothing and even using your dishwasher.  Without a whole house water filtration system you are not protecting the health of your family from the exposure to harmful unfiltered water.

Additionally, the quality of our air is affected by the lack of whole house water filtration!  Harmful chemicals in the water such as chloramines and chlorine can release vapor into the home when the water is running and this can cause respiratory problems and trigger asthma.

Home water filters protect the entire home by filtering from the source; where the water comes into the home.  The water is filtered with a broad spectrum filtration protecting you in the shower, your children in the bath, your clothing in the wash and your dishes too!  The air quality is protected as well since any water that is run in your home will have been filtered first.

A few facts regarding water may help you to fully understand the importance of whole house filtration instead of simply providing bottled water.

First, one danger comes from bisphenol A or BPA in plastic water bottles which is shown to be hazardous to humans, yet is still in use.  This doesn’t even include the damage to the environment of a huge number of plastic bottles that reach the land fills.

Second, the maximum safe level for chlorine set by the EPA is 4.0 mg/L for an adult; however, for children they say 3 mg/L is safe.  Many treatment facilities report levels between 3.2 and 3.9 mg/L.   This is barely safe for a full size adult, the smaller adults and children are left unprotected and the elderly and infants and those who are sick and need extra protection often get worse.

It is not enough to avoid drinking chlorine or chloramines.  The body absorbs the chemicals and contaminates it comes in contact with like when bathing or showering.  Additionally, vapors are also absorbed through the skin and inhaled in showers.  All of the chemicals and contaminates then enter the bloodstream.

With this in mind, during an average shower it is a safe assumption that you can consume more chemicals and contaminates that you will by drinking it; particularly if you are a kid who loves playing in the tub for a long time.  House water filters offer you the safety in the tub that the best drinking water filters or bottled water system will not.

A whole house water filtration system removes chloramines, chlorine, lead, arsenic, pharmaceuticals and other chemicals and contaminates from the water.  This leaves you with safe water from any tap in your home and leaves your air clear of the pollutants that can occur from the tap.

Is Bottled Water Safe?

Is Bottled Water Safe?

Many people drink bottled water because they think it’s safer and healthier than tap water. But this isn’t necessarily so.

Billions of dollars are spent on advertising campaigns to give consumers the perception that bottled water comes from pristine mountain springs or pure underground aquifers. The truth is that bottled water is often little more than tap water in a bottle. There are no government standards that require bottled water to be any better, purer or safer than tap water.

Bottled water, because it’s defined as a “food” under federal regulations, is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), while tap water is regulated under much stricter standards by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Companies that sell bottled water do not have to divulge to consumers the water’s source, how the water has been purified, and what chemical pollutants the water may contain. A report released in July 2009 by the General Accountability Office (GAO) found that the FDA has little power to regulate the safety of bottled water, and that even states with the power to regulate it concentrate more on tap water.

You also need to be aware of the fact that all plastic bottles leach plastic byproducts, like phthalates and BPA, into the water. The longer water sits in a plastic container, the more contaminated the water will become.

The reality of bottled water is that you pay from to a gallon for the perception of higher quality, when in fact the quality of bottled water is at best an unknown.

Another issue to consider when it comes to bottled water is the environmental impact. 86% of plastic water bottles used in the United States end up in landfills, taking up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. And large amounts of fossil fuel are used to manufacture, transport and refrigerate bottled water.

So what do you do if you decide to cut back on or stop drinking bottled water, drink more tap water? Even though it’s more strictly regulated than bottled water, tap water still contains trace amounts of toxins, and there’s also the risk of lead and bacterial contamination. And tap water can oftentimes taste and smell bad.

A water filter is the only way to ensure that the water you drink is clean and free of contaminants. It’s an economical, convenient and environmentally friendly way of getting truly healthy water that tastes great. I’ve been using a water filter for several years, and I highly recommend using one.

Watch Out For The Danger Of Low Quality Bottled Water – Find A Better Alternative Here

Watch Out For The Danger Of Low Quality Bottled Water – Find A Better Alternative Here

There are no two ways about it. It has already been proven that the water coming out from our kitchen tap is just not suitable for our consumption. Not only is it impure, it is unsafe too!

Using bottled water may sound like an option here. But do you know that there are numerous quality issues circling around it too?

Let us learn more about the danger of low quality bottled water and the ways to get away from it.

The first and foremost danger is proven by the fact that the quality regulation standards for bottled water are terribly low. As a result, the reality is that bottled water is nothing better than the tap water.

There are numerous impurities present in it. The contaminants especially those like chlorine and asbestos are known to be associated with cancer and various other serious health disorders. This is one of the main reasons why various health organizations discourage the use of bottled water.

Another danger of low quality bottled water is due to the plastic used for bottling up this water. All plastic containers leach plastic byproducts like phthalate and BPA into the water. This further addition of contaminants lowers the quality of the water even more.

The danger of low quality bottled water is not restricted to our health alone, it affects the entire planet! Remember the slogan “say no to plastic”? These plastic bottles are a major contributor to the environmental pollution and this is another reason why they should be strictly avoided.

The best and easy option to get pure and safe water is to install a water purifier at your home. The ones based on advanced technologies like that of ion exchange and sub micron filtration are known to be the best.

They not only filter out all contaminants from the water, but also retain the essential and required minerals present naturally in the water. The purifiers based on Reverse Osmosis are notorious for stripping these essential minerals off and thus causing multiple mineral deficiencies. It is better to avoid such filters.

Drinking water coming out from your purifier is the best way to keep yourself away from the danger of low quality bottled water. While going out, remember to bottle up your self purified water and carry it along.

There are nice stainless bottles available in the market. Steel not only makes them durable and safe but also helps in making an excellent style statement. Whether it is your work place or your gym, you will love the ease of carrying and using them.

Now that you are aware about the danger of low quality bottled water, take a step forward and find out more about the latest home water purifiers. They are the best and the only way to ensure the quality of the water that your family is consuming.

You can start you research with my recommendation of an effective, efficient and economical water purifier. Visit my website listed below for more details.

Eco-Friendly Water Bottle For Biking ? An Easy Way To Maintain Your Health As Well As Wealth

Eco-Friendly Water Bottle For Biking ? An Easy Way To Maintain Your Health As Well As Wealth

If you are like me and love biking, then this article is exactly for you. Have you thought of using an eco-friendly water bottle for biking? Let me tell you, it is simply a great way to manage the water needs while on the run.

Before I share the information about an eco-friendly water bottle for biking, let me ask you a simple question first. How do you manage your water requirements while biking? Do you prefer bottled water or carry your water along?

Well, whatever the case is, let me warn you that it is very harmful for your health.

How?

Bottled water is notorious for being nothing more than tap water. And tap water – as we all know – has loads of impurities like chlorine, pesticides, cysts, virus etc. Consuming such water can lead to various health problems.

Moreover, these plastic bottles are harmful for the environment too. Their disposal poses a lot of difficulties which makes them the number one contributor of environmental pollution today.

If you have the option of using a stylish eco-friendly water bottle for biking, would you still want to buy not so economically priced bottled water – which is bad for your health as well as the environment?

Apart from this, people who prefer purifying their water and carrying it along, they too need to take additional care of ensuring not using plastic containers for carrying this water.

Plastic has the property of leaching into the water and contaminating it. It also produces various toxic byproducts like phthalates and BPA which are harmful for both our as well as environment’s health.

As suggested earlier, the real solution lies in an eco-friendly water bottle for biking. It is a stainless bottle and offers the following benefits:

– Since they are made up of stainless steel, they are durable and easy to handle and use.

– Since they do not use plastic (not even the lid or the ring around it), there is no chance of plastic leaching into the water and contaminating it. Hence the water contained in it is absolutely safe from internal and external contamination.

– Since they provide you with the ability to conveniently carry the water along, there is no need for you to waste your money on bottled water which is anyways not recommended by various health organizations.

You can use your trusted water purifier to filter all contaminants and carry the clean and pure water along while biking.

Another added advantage with this eco-friendly bottle is that it is very stylish and makes an excellent style statement. Once you hear its price, I am sure you too will be tempted to buy a couple of them.

Visit my website listed below for finding out more on eco-friendly water bottle for biking.
