When Mother Day’s Gift Are Made Easy

When Mother Day’s Gift Are Made Easy

Sometimes, it seems unfortunate that most of the people who shop for Mother’s Day gifts are husbands, fathers and children. Taken together as a whole, they are usually not the greatest shoppers. Luckily, the person that they are shopping for is full of unconditional love and accepts any offering and sees these somewhat paltry gifts through the eyes of love. I mean, who else but a mother would act so honestly joyous as when they receive three (useless) stuffed animals from the kids and a Dustbuster (hint?) from the husband.

That is why it is time to reveal the secret of one of the easiest Mother’s Day gifts to either buy ready-made or to put together yourself. Gift baskets are a grouping of small gifts that go together in some sort of a theme and all of the components are artfully arranged in a beautiful container, which is usually a wicker basket. The easiest way to give a Mother’s Day gift basket is to go online or find a local store and pick one out, pay for it, and in the case of ordering one online, they will have it delivered directly to the home.

As stated before, gift baskets are one of the easiest gifts to put together. And since it is those same children and dads who will be creating and shopping for this gift, the advice given here will try to make this one of the easiest and most convenient gifts you’ve ever shopped for. Not only will it be easy and fun to create; it very well may be one of the best presents mom has ever received. And what could be an easier way to create this gift than to only have to go to one store? And not just any store, but your local grocery store. How easy is that?

Even the smaller grocery store chains tend to carry more than just food items anymore. They may have a pharmacy area that will carry many beauty products, a housewares aisle, a books and stationery section, and even a small appliance and kitchen gadget aisle. And then of course besides all of these sections of the grocery store you also have all of the food. With all of these choices, you could very easily create an unforgettable Mother’s Day gift basket.

Now, you may say that you have never seen any large wicker baskets in your local grocery store. That is true. Most small grocery stores do not carry those sorts of items, but they will probably have other items that could be used as a foundation for your gift basket. There is no rule that says that a Mother’s Day gift basket must include an old-fashioned, traditional wicker basket. But, if you would like to make putting your gift together a little easier, shop at one of those super grocery stores. The ones that carry everything from heads of lettuce to patio furniture, clothing, camping gear, electronics, and car batteries. Shopping at one of those types of stores will make the search much easier and in fact, they will probably even carry wicker baskets.

If the children are old enough, get them involved in planning the gift basket and finding items that will be included in the making of the gift. It helps to have a bit of an idea before you go into the store of what type or category of things that you will be looking for. Once you are in the grocery store it can become a kind of the game — sort of like a scavenger hunt. As you walk up and down the aisles, look at all of the items on the shelves with new eyes. And think to yourself, “Would Mom like these?”

As an example, let’s say that you decide to create a Mother’s Day gift basket based on beauty products and especially concentrating on relaxation. Items that would fit in this category would be bath oils or moisturizing soaps. Also a loofah brush, a pedicure kit and nail polish would fit nicely in this type of gift basket. Even more items to consider are deep conditioning hair treatments and facial masks. As you can see, the possibilities for this category are almost limitless. Looking around the store you may find a container that could act as the gift’s foundation. It may be a foot massage machine, a snack bowl or even a plastic food container.

Another category to shop for in the grocery store is in the books, cards and stationery aisle. Many times this aisle also carries gift bags along with wrapping paper. You could use a gift bag to act as your basket or you could find something else in another section of the store. In this gift baskets you can include interesting books, novels, puzzle magazines and other magazines that would interest her along with a quality ink pen and even a journal.

Another section of the grocery store to shop in is the small housewares aisle. In this aisle you will find kitchen gadgets, small appliances, plastic food storage containers and many other nifty things. First of all, look at all of the kitchen gadgets. The kids may have a better idea of what is already stocked in the kitchen drawers, but there are many gadgets that a mom would love to have. Even the small appliances may have a selection that mom never bought for herself. Maybe an electric knife would make carving the Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas roast beef easier. And because mom could only see using it twice a year, she never splurged and bought it for herself. This sort of thing might be the perfect item to add to the gift basket. Once you’ve picked everything out, arrange at all in a large plastic food storage container or in a flexible aluminum turkey roaster.

And finally, how about a gift basket full of the items that you will find most of in a grocery store, namely food? This would be a perfect time to buy all of those special treats that can never be afforded in the weekly grocery trip. Those gourmet expensive bags of six cookies, that jar of macadamia nuts, those special boxes of chocolate truffles, and a small bag of freshly ground designer coffee. These items and so many more can be the beginning of one of the best Mother’s Day presents that mom will have ever received. Send the kids on a hunt to find something appropriate to put all of the items in, add a bow and a beautiful card and you are well on your way to indulging her in the perfect Mother’s Day.

Homemade Food Gift Baskets – Created by You!

Homemade Food Gift Baskets – Created by You!

Gifts of food are welcomed and appreciated for all holidays and special occasions. It can be a basket of homemade goodies or it can be a more elaborate gift basket containing gourmet foods and a bottle of wine.

Wicker baskets are traditional containers, but there are many other containers that are suitable. Unbreakable containers like wooden crates, trays with an edge, basins, tubs, and ice buckets are good alternatives. Since theme gift baskets are very popular, here are three of my favorite themes when making a food gift basket.

Cookie Lover’s Theme

This is a gift for anyone who loves sweets. It’s a good idea for work associates and teachers as well as family and friends. A cookie jar, mixing bowl, or a basket are all nice containers. Line the container with a decorative towel, purchased shred, or tissue paper. Fill it with an assortment of cookies wrapped in small cello bags, purchased cookie mixes, chocolate chips, herbal tea, gourmet coffee, or envelopes of hot chocolate mix. Add a wooden spoon, spatula, and your favorite cookie recipes written on recipe cards. Wrap the completed gift in a cello bag, tied at the top with curly ribbon. If desired, tie a decorative cookie cutter in with the ribbon and add a gift card.

Barbecue Theme

This is a particularly nice idea for men on Father’s Day, birthdays, or anniversaries. It’s also a nice gift to take if you are invited as a guest to a barbecue or housewarming party. Use a container that can double as a cooler such as a metal or plastic basin, tray, or a pail. An unbreakable tray with an edge works well, too. Include gifts items such as bbq tools, an apron, an oven mitt, cookbook, or citronella candles. Barbecue sauces, marinades, rubs, hot sauce, and cans of soda or beer are all necessary items for a cookout.

Mexican/Southwestern Theme

Anyone who enjoys spicy food would be more than happy to receive an assortment of Mexican food items. The best tip I can gift you in creating this theme gift basket is to make it spicy and make it colorful. Place an assortment of spices, dry or canned beans, rice, bags of chips, and jars of salsa in a basket or a colorful bowl or serving tray. Add some fresh fruit such as avocados, lemons, limes, and pineapple. You may want to add a cookbook for Mexican food or beverages. Line the container with bright colored terry towels and top off your gift basket with some fresh peppers. Don’t forget the makings for margaritas.

A Special Gift From Your Garden

A Special Gift From Your Garden

Nothing works best and gives more pleasure than creating specialized gifts for friends and relatives on Christmas. The personal touch that you give adds to the value of the gift that money cannot add. If you are fond of gardening yourself and find that you end up with a large amount of vegetables or flowers each year, then making gifts out of the excess fruits and vegetables that your garden gives you may prove to be a great idea.

You could make jars of pickles and stew tomatoes and can them. You could also pickle green beans or olives and put them in a transparent bottle to look presentable. If you have fruits from your garden then making preserves and jams is a good idea. Not only can you make large quantities and pack them individually but can also ensure that your relatives enjoy them for a long time. Raspberry or strawberry jam or syrup is a great idea. You could also decide to dehydrate apples and make an apple pie in a jar. This can be done by adding sugar and cinnamon to it. Then all you need to do to make homemade apple pie is to dump a scoopful in a pie shell and bake it and you have yummy apple pie that you can serve to your guests or your children any time. To make the gift as perfect as possible, you can buy wooden crates and decorate them before you place the cans of goodies and make a picnic basket out of them. A few personalized words on the crate can make all the difference.

For those who have gardens of their own and get enough produce from them to appreciate these gifts, you could choose to go to a favorite store and pick up specialty gardening tools that they might find practical for their own use. One of the best items to buy is a gardening cart. Make sure to pick one that is made of molded plastic and ensure that it has wheels. Many of the gardening carts that come today are designed so that you can sit on them and wheel yourself along the bed of vegetables. This obviates the need for bending and creeping as you go about weeding, harvesting or sowing. Separate compartments where you can keep the gardening tools, and seeds and vegetables and weeds is an added bonus.

These gifts form a great option. Those who do not have a vegetable or fruit garden of their own appreciate the hard work that goes in growing and then preserving the vegetables. And people who have gardens will definitely appreciate a great and thoughtful gift like garden tools, gardening carts or seeds of rare species of flowers or fruits.

I just watched a new video someone put up endorsing the use of a PLASTIC ice chest as a solar oven, THIS IS DANGEROUS! The plastic used for coolers is NOT suitable for the intense heat of solar cooking! This kind of plastic can gas off and HURT YOU. This is NOT a safe way to make a solar oven and should NEVER EVER be considered! Please use natural items like wood that is NOT treated with any chemicals, plain cardboard boxes, even sheet metal with NO chemicals on it can be used. Certain plastics are used for certain things. Stick with SAFE solar cooking materials and you will have SAFE solar cooking.

What interesting things are packaged in Valentine gift baskets?

What interesting things are packaged in Valentine gift baskets?

If you are like me, the day after New Year’s Eve is when you start thinking about what to get your sweetie for Valentine’s Day. This year I think I might get her two nice big Valentine gift baskets.

Like many other folks, I have been aware of the gift basket phenomenon, but I have not had a reason to take a closer look at the baskets and the absolute limitless variety of items that are packaged in one of these baskets. I recently spent some time browsing the internet and eBay and I was positively amazed.

You can order a basket stuffed with massage oils and other massage items, but did you know that you can get baskets with bath soap, lip balm, body lotion, aromatherapy things, and other stuff from Bath & Body? One basket came packaged with pink grapefruit body lotion. There are gift baskets with nothing but Avon products. I guess women like smelly soaps and things like this. I don’t know about you, but if someone gave me a gift basket with soap in it, well, I wouldn’t exactly know what to think about that. Do I smell?

You can buy your lover a Victoria’s Secret gift basket. It includes a gift card she can use to purchase the panties that actually fit her, rather than the lacy pair included in the basket.

Since we are talking about naughty stuff, I found one gift basket that includes a “Naughty Journal”, whatever that is. Other baskets come packaged with nothing but romance novels.

Wine, tea, coffee, and champagne are popular gift basket items. For only 9 you can buy a basket containing a bottle of Dom Perignon. (Sorry, the Cristal gift basket is sold out.) What about beer, you ask? I did not find one single gift basket that contained any kind of beer–what a shame.

Food. How would you like a Valentines gift stuffed with cheese and crackers? (Hopefully not the smelly cheese.) You can get a gift basket with ice cream in it. One basket comes with a candy jar in the shape of a cupcake. Maybe the candy jar is to hold the chocolate.

Chocolate is so common, my informal survey found that 90% of the baskets come with at least one piece of chocolate. There are chocolate kisses, chocolate bars, hot chocolate, chocolate roses, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and every other type of chocolate thing imaginable. Even the basket stuffed with smelly bath soap had space for a few chocolate kisses. I think chocolate is the second most popular Valentine’s gift–roses are most popular.

There are baskets filled with many different types of roses. How many different rose “things” can you fit in a basket? There are real roses, of course, but there are also feather roses, roses made of bath soap, glass roses, gold plated roses, chocolate roses, candy suckers in the shape of roses, plastic roses, roses made of paper, and on and on and on…

By now, dear reader, I think you get my point. It is possible to get literally anything you want in a gift basket for your Valentine. Like I said earlier, I will be buying my sweetie two nice gift baskets on eBay–one of them with a stuffed teddy bear and a feather rose and heart made of chocolate. The other basket will be the one with the smelly bath soaps. I’m sure I’ll find the perfect basket, there are bound to be hundreds listed with delivery in time for Valentine’s Day. Why don’t you buy your Valentine gift baskets on eBay too?

Author Cedrick Laport writes about Valentine gift baskets at GiveValentineGiftBaskets.com. There you’ll find hundreds of different amazing and strange Valentine gift baskets listed for sale every day.

Top 10 Ways to Use and Re-Use Recycled Gift Wraps

Top 10 Ways to Use and Re-Use Recycled Gift Wraps

Long gone are the days when eco-friendly was synonymous with tree-hugger and hippie. Today’s new shade of “green” is hip and fashionable…some even say it’s the new black. Bridging the gap between popular and fashionable culture and environmental responsibility is a critical part of supporting the environment and reversing the damage that has already been done to it. With couture clothing designers using organic fabrics and vegetable dyes, and luxury car companies producing hybrids, sacrificing quality and aesthetics are no longer part of the “green” equation. Even luxury paper products are going green!

One such company, Fish Lips Paper Designs, creates bold and modern graphics for a variety of paper products including gift wraps and note cards. All of their products are designed, printed and packaged in the USA on 100% recycled paper using soy & vegetable inks. The company uses the finest quality papers and insists you wouldn’t know the products were “green” unless they told you. Given the lack of exciting design in paper and stationary products, and the undeniable need to practice sustainability, Fish Lips’ owner and designer Kimi Chronis calls her products “Fashionably Responsible”.

According to Chronis, “buying recycled paper products is a great start but it’s not enough; what you do with that product after it has served its initial purpose is critical.” In an effort to increase the life span of their products, Fish Lips Paper Designs suggests reusing their brightly colored, standout designs for a variety of things. Here are their TOP 10 ideas:

10. Framed art on your wall – Use a single pattern or combine multiple designs to create a larger wallscape.
9. Personalize your coffee cup – Grab a reusable coffee cup that allows you to change the insert…talk about a morning pick me up?!?!?!
8. Cover your books – Be the envy of your classmates or dress up an old coffee table book.
7. Give new life to an old piece of furniture – Cover a tabletop or the inside of a bookshelf…use one design all over for a sophisticated look or smaller pieces in multiple designs for a real standout piece!
6. Make drawer liners – Your socks will thank you!
5. Picture frame matting – This looks especially great with a black and white photo.
4. Cover a boring bulletin board – Change them out every month (or when you get too many poked holes)…your “To-Do List” just got more exciting!
3. Shred it – Shred it or cut it up and use to protect packages instead of Styrofoam.
2. Scrapbooking – Cut them up and use them as pages in your scrapbook.
1. Wrap another gift – Use scraps as decorative accents on another gift in place of bows or ribbons!

You can see all of Fish Lips Paper Designs’ currently available products on their website, www.fishlipspaperdesigns.com , and in a variety of retailers across the country. The next time you get (or give) a gift that is wrapped in a beautiful piece of paper, think of this list and find a way to give it a chic new purpose!

Kimi Chronis started Fish Lips Paper Designs in 2007 in an effort to combine modern design and sustainability. Wine Bottle Gift Box, You Can Buy One, or You Can Make One

Wine Bottle Gift Box, You Can Buy One, or You Can Make One

When you give someone a gift, the wrapping is part of the gift just as much as the present inside it. Normally one should never judge a book by its cover but sometimes one should and this is one of those times. Wine does not start to taste better when the box it is presented in is nicer and more expensive, of course not, but it does give it that little bit extra.

You can buy a gift box for wine bottles in all sorts of places, ranging from a wine shop you normally visit or a vineyard store. There are multiple colors you can choose from and even when it comes to designs and materials you will not run out of options.

Design or make your own

Are you a creative person maybe? If you have experience with art work and know about designing then why not create your own wine bottle gift box? When the thought of putting a box together has you buying a designer one then buy one that is already made for you? A tip would be to go to your local wine store and buy a few of the wine boxes that are not decorated yet.

You have a wide choice of materials when it comes to gift boxes for one bottle. There are the ones made of wood but also plastic, fabric, cardboard and even metal. Some decorating tips would be to use a wooden one and paint it, maybe with some rustic scenes or a portrait. An other option could be to go 3 dimensional and glue things like flowers or other items on the box.

Even if your on a budget and you can only by a cardboard wine bottle gift box, you can still paint it to make it more personal and even glue things on it.

If your not only good with design but also with your hands then design the whole gift box from scratch, choose you own material and create something really personal around the bottle of wine you are giving as a present. There are metal containers for wine bottles that you could also use, or maybe create your own from sheet metal.

Maybe you have these wild ideas for a lovely gift wrapping but are not creative enough to make it happen on your own, then you could ask a friend who is a bit experienced to help you out by being the hands to your mind.

Wine should be enjoyed and indeed the wrapping will not make it taste better then it already is. But the joy of unwrapping it, knowing that the gift giver has gone to all that effort just to create something special will make drinking it very special. And just think about all the fun you will have beforehand when you are in the middle of creating the wine bottle gift box.

When you need some ideas or some tips do a search online to find some arts and crafts sites who can show you some new ways of creating the perfect wine bottle wrapping.

Jean Bolton loves to give gifts and wine is her favorite. She shows that personalized wine gift bottles or wine country gift baskets make a perfect gift.

Smart Food Gift Packaging Ideas

Smart Food Gift Packaging Ideas

Presenting someone sweet treats and special foods that he/she likes most is the perfect & delicious gift. Preparing such things generally don’t pose problem. What creates the headache is its packaging and presentation?

You should keep in mind that since these gifts are eatable and meant to be consumed, you must do your best to keep the packaging appetizing, appealing, and sanitary looking.

Never put the cookies together when they are warm, otherwise they stick and become distorted. In case you’ve made candies that are in pieces, take your time to wrap all pieces individually in it’s own square of waxed paper. For wrapping try to avoid the colored food wraps, as they make the food look off. You can give bread into a tin or tray box or in decorated paper bags, put into a clear plastic bag. Stickier candies and treats such as barks and brittles should be layered with waxed paper so they do not form one big block of brittle.

If you have taken the time to cook up something special to give, you want it to look as scrumptious as it tastes. Here are some ideas on packaging your food gift from the kitchen.

A number of amazingly shaped jars, bottles, packing boxes, and cruets are available, that are relatively inexpensive and add to the presentation of your gift from the kitchen. Adding proper tags to the gifts spells your love. You can purchase pretty packing labels & stickers to clearly specify your gift with the contents, usage and recommended shelf life. You can also make your own labels that look professional with the computer using downloadable labels. A number of inexpensive gift bags are available in the market. Most of them are plastic-coated that make them a perfect choice for moist foods. You can always add your own ideas and design to these bags. You can make a peek window in these bags by cutting out any shape from the side of the bag and taping plastic wrap to cover the openings. You can also use metal tins. They are available in different shapes, sizes, patterns, and colors. Before putting the goodies in it, you can give it some designing look by lining the edges with non-reactive colored tissue papers. One thing to be noted is that moist foods should be wrapped in cellophane or plastic wrap. Lidded clear plastic containers can also be used for packing foods and they are inexpensive too. They come in variety of colors. You can dress them up by gluing a paper skirt or fabric around the bottom.
