Brewery Ommegang Unveils 15th Anniversary Brew in Crown’s Specialty Packaging

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Cooperstown, NY-based Brewery Ommegang partnered with CROWN Speciality Packaging North America, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK), to craft an elegant metal package to hold 750ml bottles of Ommegang XV Reserve Ale, a Belgian-Style Trappist Dark Ale.

The sleek, black cylindrical container mirrors the final design of the bottle’s labeling, stands out on store shelves and serves as a collector’s item, extending the brand’s exposure long after consumption of the beer itself. It was critical to Ommegang that the package communicated the exclusivity of the special ale, but also represented the quality of all the company’s products.  To make sure this vision was delivered, Ommegang turned to Crown, the company’s existing provider of crown closures, for its expertise in packaging specialty products.

“While spirits and wines are commonly found in speciality packaging, it is the first time we tried something like this for a beer,” said Larry Bennett, PR and creative services, Brewery Ommegang. “The anniversary tins made sure that our brand stood out on the shelf with a clean and truly original look.”

With a short lead-time to bring the project to fruition, a strong partnership was essential. The two companies worked closely together from the outset to conceptualize and develop a simple but striking container that captured the elegance and quality of the Brewery Ommegang brand. Adding to the challenge was the fact that the metal package needed to reflect the branding and final artwork that had already been developed for the label on the bottle that would be housed inside the container. Crown first provided a series of samples, including tubular designs that demonstrated the different ways that Ommegang might approach the project. This enabled the brewer to make a selection that could incorporate the colors and finishes that best represented the brand’s image.

Close collaboration on artwork was also vital to the process. During the design process, multiple draw-downs were created, including variations in blacks, grays, golds and other metallic sheens. Overlays were then added to the mix to determine the most appealing combination. The development process then moved to the prototyping stage where, rather than relying solely on digital representations, Crown provided a series of designs and artwork samples printed on flat metal sheets so Ommegang could more accurately visualize – and interact with – the final product.

“Working with an existing customer on a completely new format for a beverage was a terrific experience as we were able to leverage our strong relationship while providing insight that Crown has developed over the years across a breadth of markets,” said Sheila Heath, director of marketing, CROWN Speciality Packaging North America. “The end result was a commemorative container that truly distinguishes Brewery Ommegang as a specialty brewer.”

Crown produced 20,000 units for the one-off release, which was distributed throughout North America. Based on the success of the packaging in the marketplace, Brewery Ommegang is now hopeful it will offer, in the future, other limited edition beer in speciality packaging tins for beer connoisseurs.

Leather Conference Folders & Promotional Bottled Water – Why They Make Great Promotional Gifts

Leather Conference Folders & Promotional Bottled Water – Why They Make Great Promotional Gifts

At your next Conference will you target your product or service by giving delegates a Leather Conference Folder or do you target the delegate’s personal care with Promotional Bottled Water? This article discusses both possibilities and then leaves the choice up to you.

When a delegate receives information on the conference they have been invited to it sets the level of expectation immediately. If you contact the person via E.Mail with a PDF map that could be acceptable. However if the information arrives by post along with a relevant Promotional Gift such as a good quality road map or pen then it makes it much more personal. It gives the delegate the impression that they matter and that they can look forward to more pleasant surprises upon arrival. Perception is vital so you must get it right at the outset.

Upon arrival at the event the delegate can expect to pick up a bag with relevant information on where to go, what to do etc. But imagine if when they arrive that the information is presented in a Leather Conference Folder with their initials engraved upon the outer cover? All of a sudden this person feels that they are a valued individual and not just part of the crowd. You can see this for yourself at the next event you attend. Watch what attendees do with a plastic carrier bag, it is usually dropped at the feet of the recipient whilst they remove their coats or sign in. It is then left lying around or discarded entirley. Compare that then to the person whose personalised Leather Conference Folder is treated with care and respect. The folder will be put down carefully on a surface and it will be studied carefully as if it were an important item.

By catering for the attendees personal needs you once again demonstrate a personal touch. Giving each delegate Promotional Bottled Water tells them that you know they will probably get thirsty and you care enough about them to solve that problem. Unlike a pen or keyring this really is all about them and their personal care and not about you and your product. That said of course by branding the Promotional Water Bottle you achieve two wins for the price of one.

So which one you choose is completely up to you. Do you use the Leather Conference Folder or the Promotional Bottled Water? You will be aware that either of these items work well in delivering your message to its intended audience. The water will almost certainly be consumed on site so could be considered as a short term Promotional Item whereas the personalised Leather Conference Folder will definitely be taken back to the office or home and valued as great quality Business Gift.

Personally I believe you should give them both options but then as a Promotional Merchandise supplier that probably won’t surprise your will it?
