Magic in Monaco

Last year, more than 7,000 decision-makers and packaging executives from 68 countries gathered for Luxe Pack Monaco. The annual packaging trade show for luxury brands and other cutting-edge companies will take place this year from October 23 to 25 at Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum.

While the majority of attendees to this three-day event hail from the beauty sector, a vast array of industries is represented at the show including alcohol and spirits, gourmet food, fashion and accessories, jewelry and watches, pharmacy and health, leather goods, tobacco, writing instruments, tabletop and home décor.

With its stunning backdrop on the French Riviera, visitors to Luxe Pack Monaco are exposed to a true luxury experience. Inside the spectacular glass convention center, attendees have access to the most innovative packaging available today from nearly 400 exhibitors, an increase of almost 30 compared to the number of exhibitors that participated in 2012. From creative bags, cartons and ribbons to the latest in bottle decoration and airless dispensing systems to the newest cutting edge materials, Luxe Pack Monaco is a packaging designers’ dream.

The show’s guest of honor, Francis Kurkdjian, is one of the world’s most famous perfumers. He will lead the keynote at 2 p.m. on opening day. Kurkdjian exploded onto the fragrance scene at the age of 25 with his very first creation: le Mâle for Jean Paul Gaultier. Numerous high-profile, successful fragrances followed.

Going against the trend of perfume democratization, Kurkdjian was the first to open a bespoke fragrance atelier. He has also created gigantic olfactory installations in emblematic spaces, making people dream with his ephemeral and spectacular perfumed performances. To fete  the 10-year anniversary of the French Armenian’s bespoke-perfumery, Kurkdjian concocted an amazing, limited-edition fragrance housed in sleek Saint-Louis crystal bottles (available for $11,000), and threw a lavish bash at Paris’ Grand Palais.

Kurkdjian’s keynote is one of 14 seminars during Luxe Pack that guests may tap into. Seminar topics run the gamut including e-commerce in the luxury market, the new luxury consumer, sustainability, branding, design, luxury in China, the creative process and more.

Among the highlights are a discussion on design with famed French designer Olivia Putmann and “Religions and Luxury—The Ethics of Wealth from the West to the East,” presented by Pascal Morand, professor director of the Institute for Innovation and Competitiveness i7 ESCP Europe, who authored a book with the same title.

For the first time, Luxe Pack will offer a conference examining the experiences in various industries such as the automobile and aeronautics markets that can be adapted to the luxury sector.

Internationally renowned designer Marc Rosen will take on a new role as a trend spotter and contributor to the Luxe Pack Trends Observer this year. A distinguished panel of experts, including Rosen, will decode and analyze the year’s product launches to identify key packaging trends.

Other sources for inspiration available to attendees are the Innovation Forum, which shines a spotlight on the newest technologies and developments from exhibitors, and the Luxe Pack in Green Award, which honors the exhibitor with the most creative sustainable packaging.

The Function of Packaging

The Function of Packaging

The package is to contain and protect goods, from raw materials to finished products, to enable handling and delivery from producer to consumer or user, and to ensure their submission. Following its use, the package is qualified sales packages, collecting, or transportation.

The great diversity of usage that the package may take various forms ,such as sheet, bag, box, box, barrel, bottle, etc..And be made from paper, cardboard, plastics, wood, glass or metal. It is complete with appropriate accessories ,such as accessory assembly, sealing, gripping, protection, etc.

The packaging, both protectors of content, guarantee security, functionality, first contact with the user or consumer, messengers of the product to the user, brand ambassadors, must meet a number of functions , both technical and marketing.

In a context where economic, safety, ergonomics, and environmental regulations are especially important in developing new packaging and its definition requires a specific methodology that integrates all aspects of the life cycle of the packaging, taking into account the Couple packaging / product and multidisciplinary collaboration involving real partners.

The proposed methodology comprises three phases:

Functional needs analysis leading to the development of functional specifications ;
The proposal of potential solutions, their validation and the choice of a packaging solution;
Description and characterization of the solution, then the development of specifications for purchase.

The packages are subject to standards, regulations and certification systems. The standardization work is mainly carried out at European level in the framework of the Technical Committee 261 – Packaging, but other committees addressing issues affecting packaging.
