I Asked My Doctor is Bottled Water Better Than Tap?

I Asked My Doctor is Bottled Water Better Than Tap?

So, the last time I was at my doctors after the usual anything else bothering you? I asked is bottled water better than tap? He raised his eyebrows, straightened his glasses and gave me an exasperated what have you been reading know look. Well, with him being a medical man I thought he may have an opinion on the matter. His opinion was there was little wrong with drinking the tap variety and that I should be more concerned about eating a healthy diet and doing more exercise.

So, I returned none the wiser and still pondered over the same question. I mean, if you were to have a glass of bottled water next to a glass of tap water they would look the same wouldn’t they. During the time spent doing some further research I also came across a magazine article that had conducted a blind tasting of both types and suprisingly the tap water had come out in front. Which indicates to me that both taste and smell would play a part in the equation.

My friend added something to the is bottled water better than tap argument by commenting on the huge number of plastic bottles made by the water industry each year to sell the stuff. Just take a look at the shelf space for mineral water next time you are in the supermarket.

It made me think what happens to all those empty bottles, sure some get recycled but a lot still end up in local landfill sites which doesn’t do a lot of good for our environment. Plastic it seems takes hundreds of years to break-down. Plus consider all those resources and energy involved in the production process, and then the shipping of it between the source and the shop.

You begin to wonder is it all worth it and should I be a bit more responsible for my actions and start thinking of buying things with regard to the points above. While I can’t give you a definitive conclusion is bottled water better than tap, you could follow my lead and look at what can be done inside your own home to give you better quality water.
